+$1.50/hr on Weekends

The Bloodmobile Driver position is responsible for driving a 26 ft box truck or other Bloodmobile vehicles (buses or vans) to and from blood drives throughout New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties, as well as the surrounding areas of MD & PA. Also prepares equipment and supplies for blood drives, transporting them to and from mobile draw sites, loading and unloading transport vehicles. Assists with setting up the blood drive. Assists with blood collection allied activities in the donor room and at mobile sites in accordance with BBD guidelines as described below. This position is considered “essential” during severe weather or emergency operation events.

  • Drives the blood bank vehicles, including Box Trucks, to and from blood drives operating in a safe manner. Assures timely arrival at blood drive location.
  • Assists with setting up and breaking down the blood drive.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies for blood drives, loading and unloading them onto transport vehicles. Assures all supplies necessary for a successful drive are packed as needed.  Maintains supplies in a neat and orderly fashion and follows regulatory requirements when returning them to the storage area after a blood drive.
  • Assists with donor care activities, primarily registration of donors, and other miscellaneous duties as needed to ensure a safe and efficient mobile blood draw operation.
  • Assists in maintaining the blood bank vehicles in a manner which ensures mechanical components are functioning properly and are road safe and ready. Cleans out the vehicle following blood drives.  Performs vehicle inspections, minor vehicle upkeep and maintenance.  Timely reporting of additional maintenance needs to the Facilities Department when required
  • Follows procedures to ensure DOT logs and reports are completed as required

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Valid CDL A or B Drivers License.
  • 2+ years of experience driving 26 ft box trucks or other large vehicles requiring a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC), Form MCSA-5876.
  • Working knowledge of large vehicle operation, parts, and basic preventative maintenance procedures with the ability to read and interpret basic mechanical and technical procedures.
  • Ability to prepare basic reports related to vehicle maintenance and identify mechanical failures on a vehicle either to prevent or reduce downtime.
  • Ability to accurately enter donor information for successful donor registration into computer system.
  • Ability to provide highest quality service to all customers. Must be able to multi-task proficiently and work a variable work schedule.
